Holding Space
A short programme for those involved in the formation of spiritual directors.
24th and 25th June 2021
10am – 1pm each day
‘Holding space’ is one way of describing a part of what we ‘do’ when we meet with someone as a spiritual director. But what is the nature of our ‘holding’ and what is the nature of the space we attempt to hold?
In these two sessions, we will begin to explore these questions as a way of working out more about how we can enable formation of spiritual directors in a way that truly reflects the nature of spiritual direction itself.
The sessions are aimed at those who are involved in the formation of spiritual directors or who are considering setting up courses. During our time together we will be encouraging participants to reflect on their own experience of training and receiving direction as well as sharing their wisdom and experience of facilitating formation programmes.
Our aim is that participants will gain clarity around the quality of the space that needs to be held by a formation team and insights into the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of creating that space; insights that may be beneficial for their own formation programmes.
The sessions will be facilitated on Zoom by Nick Helm and Rachel Overton.
Rachel and Nick have long experience of spiritual direction and the formation of spiritual directors and a shared passion in effective processes of spiritual director formation that are congruent with the nature of the ministry.
